Holistic ApproachThe Holistic Approach to drug addiction and alcoholism can be of great assistance throughout the various stages of recovery. The Holistic Approach plays a vital role in regaining a personal balance, and it will give you the ability to successfully maintain your sobriety and improve your mental health and physical well being.
For the recovering addict, the Holistic Approach, when accompanied by the professional treatment plan provided by Solutions Recovery, can be very effective well beyond the initial recovery treatment as an ongoing part of your substance abuse therapy.
Scientific studies have revealed dramatically improved success rates from Treatment Centers that incorporate a Holistic Approach into their Substance Abuse Programs. Solutions Recovery prides itself on our Holistic Approach within our programs and believes to heal the addiction, you must first heal the mind, body and soul.
Our Holistic Approach to clinical care emphasizes the growth of all aspects of the individual encompassing his or her cultural, economic, physical, psychological and social well being. Holistic services are provided so that the whole person is treated rather than the chemical dependency alone. These services are provided in an effort to offer additional motivation and also to increase the client’s receptiveness to the recovery process.
In an effort to promote physical well being, we offer a variety of holistic services such as:
Auricular Therapy
Auricular Therapy is a therapeutic intervention in which stimulation of the auricle of the external ear is utilized to alleviate health conditions in other parts of the body. The method of Auricular Therapy involves examining the ear for tenderness or for variations in electrical conductivity. The Auricular treatment consists of using a electrical stimulator at certain Auricular points thought to correspond to the anatomical site of the effected region of the body and mind. The programs commonly treated by Auricular Therapy are to stop smoking, weight control, drug addiction and alcohol addition. Clients who have successfully completed treatment combined with auricular therapy showed the fastest recovery with the highest recovery rates.
Therapeutic Massage
Incorporating Therapeutic Massage into a substance abuse program is important in all of the stages of quitting an addiction: withdrawal, detoxification and abstinence. The physical, emotional and spiritual components of recovery all can be directly benefited by the healing power of therapeutic touch. Therapeutic Massage has the unique ability to affect all of our layers of being, from the spiritual plane all the way up to and including our physical well being. In the process of abandoning an addiction, these many parts of ourselves become fragmented.
Solutions Recovery recognizes that Therapeutic Massage has the ability to mend that mind-body connection. Once that has been established our clients will be optimally prepared to succeed in their recovery.
Meditation
Meditation can be a powerful tool in relapse prevention and can become what one therapist called a “positive addiction” that provides a healthy alternative to addictive behaviors. People also report that meditation leads to new insights about the source of their cravings and helps to dissolve them. Because meditation helps induce an increased peace of mind, it increases a self awareness of negative behaviors and emotions, and most importantly reduces the relapse provoking stressors, offering therapeutic benefit to patients in recovery from substance abuse and dependence. Most of Solutions Recovery's clients enjoyed the process and benefits of meditation and a majority report it helpful in their battle to abstain from further use.
Yoga
Through various types of addiction therapy, there is one central component: Finding new, healthier ways to deal with daily stresses while maintaining a clear perspective. Perhaps because this mindset is an important part of yoga practice, researchers are testing yoga’s efficacy in treating addiction. Medical experts are theorizing that yoga may actually break the addictive cycle. Yoga therapy works in contrast to most therapies for addiction, which isolate either the psychological or physiological element, by treating the body and mind simultaneously.
Exercise
A fit body and alert mind can help us to overcome alcohol and drug addiction and maintain sobriety on a long-term basis. In order to achieve the state of optimal physical, mental and spiritual fitness required to do this, we must nurture and care for our bodies by engaging in daily physical exercise. Exercise stimulates endorphins, which are neurochemicals that help stabilize our mood. These neurochemicals are generally depleted in addicts, which leaves these individuals with negative thoughts to go along with their negative actions, usually leading them into a destructive downward cycle. With the benefits of exercise, an addict can bring positive behavior into their life to replace the substance abuse and the mood swings that go along with it.
By taking the appropriate steps with our patients, we give them the tools to live a happy, functional and productive life through the Holistic Approach process.
