"I hope you're doing well. I wanted to give you an update and tell you and Dave thank you so much. Last night I was reading through my journals from before I came to Solutions and then I read through the most recent entries and it's like they are written by two different people.
I have a hope and self awareness that I've never had before. I used to write about suicide on a regular basis, and towards the last few months before I came to Solutions I was writing goodbye letters to my family and I had a suicide plan. I was in and out of psych hospitals, and stayed in my house for weeks at a time because I was afraid of people.
I don't think I would be alive today if I hadn't come to Solutions. I did hit some bumps when I came back home, and I learned that in addition to the tools I learned there, I am one of those that needs help from a psychiatrist. I know I'm not the only one who went through this so part of why I'm writing this is because there might be someone there who is dealing with this problem, and it helps to hear it from someone who has been through the same thing.
Feel free to share this with anyone it might help. I was diagnosed with a mental illness prior to coming to Solutions, but I wasn't ready to take the suggestion to stay on medication.
I wanted to be drug free, and coming to the terms with the fact that I had the life long condition of addiction was already daunting. Accepting that I also had a mental illness that I needed to address was not something I was ready to do, and I thought that I could fix my own head with my own head.
This ended with a very painful relapse and I quickly found myself right back where I had been. I can see now that I used drugs to self medicate a chemical imbalance, and until this was first addressed it didn't matter how involved in working a good program I was (I was working the steps and going to at least one meeting a day) or how much I'd learned at Solutions- I was not able to stay sober.
I'm starting to get stable and balanced through the help of my medication and I recently thought to myself, "Wow, this must be what it feels like to be normal and healthy." Because I had never been mentally stable I didn't know I had a problem until I got the help I needed. I learned tools while I was there about my addiction that helped me get back on my feet again, and something that Dave said to me about medication stuck in my head, and although I didn't think it applied to me at the time, that was what led me to get the medical help I need.
I am so grateful for the help I received while I was there. I would like to come back and volunteer wherever I may be needed. I'm feeling a little better everyday and I think that may be possible soon."

"Solutions Recovery saved my life. I am attending AA meetings and working on "self".

The friends I have in AA are very important to me. Solutions Recovery is a special place! I think about my stay there every day, and the things that I learned there. If I had not been there, and learned some of the tools needed to stay clean and sober, AA meetings would not have the meaning they have today.

I hope to go back to the Solutions to visit, and see some of the real true friends I made there. Keep up the great work you do!!

Thanks,"

"Dear Sober Living

This is just a little summary of my story since coming into Sober Living.

My name is Wendy G. and as of February 14, 2010, I have 8 months sobriety (true sobriety) and I lead a truly blessed life. I went to jail on June 14, 2009 for paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant. I spent 2 months in jail and at the time of my arrest, I was deemed hopeless, helpless, useless, unemployable and suicidal. On or about June 19th, a lady by the name of Geri Davis came to me and asked me if there was anything that the Police Department could do to help me upon my release. Of course my pride would not allow me to immediately respond in honesty when asked if I had somewhere safe to go when I got out so I said I was fine. Once again she asked me if there was one thing they could do for me, what could they do to help me and for the first time in my 25 year active addiction, I finally looked down and said "you really want to help me???? The POLICE want to help me??? Well you see, I've got this problem....I lied to the cops when I said I was homeless because I didn't want another charge.

I really do have a place to go but this is the problem; I'm an Alcoholic (I then began to cry because this was my first admission to the true depth of my disease) and if I go home...the first thing that's gonna happen is, my roomate is going to give me a beer and I'm gonna drink it and from there, within an hour I'm going to convince my roomate to give me some money and I'm going to the dope house and I will be lost all over again". Little did I know that I had gone totally insane with my thinking. The only clear knowledge that I had at the time was that I was sick and tired of living the way I was living. So, I said "if you really want to help me....could you find me a sober living environment to go to when I get out???" They did and when I was released from jail, I walked away from everything and everyone I knew with the exception of one friend from my past. I had nothing but the clothes on my back, a jail house toothbrush and comb and 5 knives.

By Christmas 2009, I was blessed with the chance to see my entire family for the first time in 11 years. Meeting my daughter was quite the experience because when I left home, she was a baby and she is now soon to be 15 years old. My son was 11 and is now a grown man, 22 years of age. I had no I.D. and God made a way for me to see my family via airplane trip home anyway. Within a short period of time I had my family back, my ID, approximately 120 positive friends in which I can call upon at any given time for help and a wonderful life. I am now a student at Kaplan University in which I currently am maintaining about a 3.8 GPA and I enjoy giving back to others what Sober Living of Las Vegas gave to me.....SOBRIETY, peace, love, joy and happiness as well as the confidence to persevere through any troubling situation tht I my encounter.

My deepest gratitude is to Sober Living of Las Vegas (Jeff Iverson - (Owner), Chris Bailey, Daniel Moore - (Managers) and the residents in Sober Living) because without them and the help I received from the City of Las Vegas, I would never have found the life I live today. They took me to my first steps in life and now I successfully live on my own because they helped me to learn how to live life on life's terms through sobriety and the AA program.

Anyone can have this way of life, all they have to do is be willing to change everything they once knew.

Sincerest Gratitude,"

Wendy G., grateful recovering alcoholic/drug addict

"At first I was mad about being here.  But I figured out I was really mad at myself for becoming an alcoholic.  In time I realized it was the best place to be.  I feel as though that it has helped me out with my recovery and has made me a better person.  I advise anybody with an alcohol & drug problem to come to Solutions."

Chris, Las Vegas

"Solutions Recovery was a blessing.  I was released from jail to Solutions.  If it wasn’t for Solutions I would be sitting in prison or dead.  Now I have the opportunity for a second chance at life.  Now I can live a life I’ve never imagined.  Thank you Solutions."

Dexter, Las Vegas

"Well as we know I have been here before.  My experience here has been exceptional.  Yea there is drama at the house but you have to deal with it.  The staff welcomed me back with open arms and has been nothing but helpful and sincere.  I have to admit that the communication at the house with the house managers could be better.  I can’t thank Dave enough for allowing me to come back.  I would recommend Solutions to anyone."

Jeff M., NV

"My experience at Solutions the past 2 weeks have been overwhelming.  I’ve seen anger, hate and love.  We’ve bonded as a group and during our bonding, unfortunately, one of our housemates passed away; A rude awakening for some of us. I come away from the overall, convinced, that I will never use again. I will continue my process and move forward.  A lot of good information has been supplied and a lot of stories have been supportive in out effort to remain clean."

Lucy., Henderson, NV

"Dear Solutions,

My Story is one of pain and addiction.  Thanks to Solutions Recovery, Inc., my life went from complete darkness and despair to one of hope and optimism.

After seeing numerous medical doctors, unfortunately the only result was a dangerous addiction to pain killers.

With the help of friends and family, I was introduced to Solutions Recovery.  They immediately made me feel welcome.  It was a safe and comfortable setting, with a caring and compassionate staff.

Solutions referred me to Dr. Joseph Bradley.  I was instantly impressed.  With the help of his wonderful wife Karen, I was transformed from a weakened and frail state to a healthy vibrant being.  His natural approach to the healing process is truly amazing.

As a result of my stay at Solutions, I can truly say I am now completely drug free and my life has been changed forever.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the entire staff at Solutions.  Thank you for your guidance and compassion on my journey to recovery.

I would like to close with a quote from a former U.S. president:  “Only when you have been in the deepest valley, can you ever imagine how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain”.

Michael., Parump, NV

"I came in with anger, frustration and a really big want to die.  Even the first night I didn’t talk to anyone.  I came in on New Year’s night, sober and went straight to bed with anger.  Jan. 1 became my first day of sobriety.  I was tired and still angry.

But what I realized was that it was the first time I woke up in the New Year sober.  And it made me feel a sense of freedom.  Then that started a thought that I might be able to beat my addictions.  Freedom is better than a hangover.  That only leads to more and more of the vicious cycle that I know I couldn’t stop on my own.  Now I am halfway through the program.  I have started to find myself again.  I realize that people do care for me and all my actions affected all the people I love.

This program has shown me that I can not only stop my substance abuse, but actually learn how to feel and love.  Also this program provides more help than I could ever need.  They go the extra mile and pamper your whole body with massages, pedicures, hair cuts and yoga.  As time goes on the more clarity and peace of mind you get.

Then you start to open up and make sober friends.  But the most important thing I have learned is that there is no secret ingredient to yourself.  It’s just you that make you, you."

Todd., NV

"My experiences at Solutions have been up and down.  The group is awesome, especially the people.  I have learned a lot and have progressed as a human being.  At first I was mad about this, but now I am grateful.  I have learned many things about myself and others that will help me for the rest of my life."

Alice., NV
