The Admissions Process

Prospective clients are assessed for appropriateness of treatment as well as appropriate level of care prior to admission. If the individual is accepting of treatment at our facilities, they are either admitted immediately or placed on a waiting list pending an open bed. Applicants who are assessed as needing medical detoxification are referred to appropriate facilities.

Individuals whose treatment would be more appropriate at a different facility or program would also be referred accordingly. If the person is admitted, the assessment continues during the intake process and is then completed by a Master’s prepared counselor. Every effort is made to respond to an individual’s needs.

Initial and ongoing assessments and evaluations provide a basis for formulating individualized treatment plans as well as identifying the need for any external services. Linkages with other community-based agencies are established and referrals to ancillary services are facilitated as needed.

The development of the individual treatment plan takes into consideration the client’s lifestyle, ethnic and cultural background, strengths and weaknesses, special needs, and the support systems that will enhance the person’s recovery process.

Clients and staff collaboratively assess the strengths and needs of a client to develop a treatment plan designed to reduce or eliminate emotional, behavioral and situational obstacles to recovery, enhance his or her skills and abilities to become a self-sufficient and productive member of society, and increase his or her resources in the community.

Addiction Detox

The first step in prescription detox is a physical and emotional evaluation.  A clinician assesses the patient to see what substances and how much of that substance are currently in the bloodstream.  The evaluation also assesses potential co-occurring disorders, mental illness and duel diagnosis.

After the evaluation stage, stabilization begins.  Depending on the patients' previous drug regiment, specific drugs being taken and the quantity of those drugs, the prescription detox process my or may not require medication.

In a medication assisted prescription detox, the dangerous street drugs being used are replaced with controlled prescription medications to ease the effects of physical withdrawals as well as other potential negative health effects.  Without the proper care during the stabilization phase, patients can suffer from seizures, extreme physical pain, hot and cold sweats, diarrhea, skin crawls and the possibility of a stroke to name a few.  An abstinence based prescription detox does not use any medications but still requires close supervision and health monitoring for up to ten days.

Once the patient has been physically stabilized, psychological recovery can begin.  At this point the patient needs to be willing to undergo a drug rehabilitation program.  This may come in the form of a residential treatment program, or an intensive outpatient therapy.
